Sniper rifle M/39 SOV was a combination of the standard M/39 and captured Soviet Scopes. This sniper rifle was created since local production of sniper rifles was limited and the captured sniper rifles were used by the units who captured them and mostly were brought home.
During the Winter War and Continuation War, Sniper training was limited since Sniper Rifles were limited in Finnish use. Most of the sniper training came from the Civil Guard. In October of 1942 the organization of a Finnish rifle squad should have a sniper rifle but with the lack of sniper rifles and proper training. In late winter to early spring of 1943 sniper training started at the regimental level with in Autumn of 1943 standard sniper training was started.
